I think it would depend on the source of the HDF5 and what it contains. Globe Claritas uses HDF5 format for its internal data storage. At one stage some of this code was going to be available opensource (in general HDF5 is opensource) so the api can in theory be used to export binary data which can be read into seismic unix directly.
