Hello
I am looking for a software for Zero Offset Processing, but all softwares are required money. I've found this mailing list. So, I can try Seismic Unix for this. However, I guess it is tough doing Zero Offset VSP processing on Seismic Unix.
Still, I want to ask. Does anyone have VSP fundamental processing scripts? If so, I would be appreciated.
Thank you Erdi
Erdi,
I cannot help you with scripts, but the SEG has published a not-too-expensive booklet titled “VSP Interpretive processing, Theory and Practice” by Hinds et al. It does not contain SU scripts, but it gives stepwise processing sequences which can be converted into SU script by someone familiar with SU
Good luck
Gerhard

Hi, SU has basically all the necessary stuff to process zero offset VSP (at least basic processing) - header and trace editing if necessary - first break picking (manual and/or automatic) to get time to depth relation - usual seismic signal processing tools - downgoing/upgoing wave separation by FK, median or SVD filtering (and static correction to align events) - waveshaping for multiple elimination - muting/stacking to compute corridor stack and , of course the necessary functions to plot everything !
As you may know, it's difficult (tedious) to write scripts for every kind of data and personal scripts are not always well documented/commented (I think that this can be called an understatement !)
My advice would be that you try to write your own scripts and ask the list to get help when you encounter difficulties.
Enjoy SU D.

Dear experts,
I agree that SU has all the capabilities to process VSP datasets. A while ago, I made an attempt to write documentation on how to process simple Zero Offset VSP using Seismic Unix. (https://github.com/fahdi104/latihanvspsu). This documentation still needs a lot of work, but it's easy to demonstrate the use of sufbpick, sumedian, supef, and sustack, to process Zero Offset VSP.
The other free/academic software that can be used for VSP processing is DSISoft. And since CREWES ( https://www.crewes.org/ResearchLinks/FreeSoftware/) research groups have been focusing a lot on VSP, their free matlab toolbox has a lot of tools for VSP processing.
Rgds,
fahdi

Dear Fahdi
I tried to access this one www.gm2001.net/latihanvspsu/ but it's linked to a Chinese site . If you have the zipped version it would be much easier Thanks much Bachir

Hi Folks - A minor thing I just noticed ... On the SU trace header wiki page ...
sudoc:su_data_format [Seismic Unix WIKI]

The Description for key "nhs" (bytes 33-34) is missing (blank). This might be due to a small error in the source code, a missing "|" (pipe, as we say in Linux) at the end of the Description. I can log into the site but I don't seem to have edit permission. Someone please lend a hand. Regards, David
